On September 28 in Kyiv, Water polo club “Dynamo Lviv” defeated the team of Water polo club “Mariupol” with a score of 23:10, winning their seventh Super Cup of Ukraine. Lviv residents continue the tradition of success, winning trophies in 2016, 2017, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
Oleksiy Shvedov, the head coach of Water polo club “Dynamo Lviv” noted that the team went to the match after an intensive training period, which affected the physical readiness of the players.
“After the first period, we got rolling and started playing our game,” he emphasized.
“It’s good that Water polo club Mariupol exists and demonstrates a decent level of play. Although “Dynamo” had a mediocre game today, I congratulate them on the victory and thank both teams for an interesting show. This shows that water polo in Ukraine is developing, and we all have to support this process,” Oleksandr Svishchov, president of the Water Polo Federation of Ukraine, commented on the match.
The captain of the team Oleksandr Dyadyura noted that the game was dynamic, and the support of the spectators created a great atmosphere.
“The team from Mariupol showed a very worthy resistance in the first half of the match,” he added.
The head coach of Water polo club “Mariupol” Timur Shilin emphasized the positive points, despite the defeat.
“We tried not only to win, but also to get in shape for the upcoming matches,” he said, admitting that the team made too many mistakes.
Oleksandr Svishchov, the president of Water Polo Federation of Ukraine and one of the leading businessmen of Western Ukraine, also expressed his support for both teams. He emphasized the importance of the development of sports in Ukraine, despite the challenges facing the country.
