When not only the sport is at stake, but the future of an entire generation and national honour, words become weapons. The President of the Water Polo Federation of Ukraine, Oleksandr Svishchov, presented a development strategy for 2026 that is imbued not only with professional vision, but also with deep patriotism and indestructibility. His main goal is not only to preserve water polo in Ukraine, but to bring it to pre-war levels, despite the daily challenges of war.
Unacceptable compromise with the enemy
Oleksandr Svishchov reacted quite sharply and emotionally to World Aquatics’ decision to allow so-called neutral athletes. He called the decision disgraceful and a betrayal of Olympic values. For the Water Polo Federation of Ukraine president, this is a matter of moral choice. He is initiating an international coalition of allies and involving all state institutions, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the NOC, to prevent the aggressor from entering international pools. His position is unwavering: as long as there is a war, there can be no handshakes or joint occupations.
Invincibility of Kharkiv and Mariupol
A special place in Oleksandr Svishchov’s heart is held by the teams that train in inhumane conditions, these are the water footballers from Kharkiv and Mariupol. These athletes have become a symbol of professionalism and a thirst for life. Training under the sound of air alarms, in cold water without light, preserving the identity of the club after the transfer – this is something that commands the sincere respect of the federation’s president. For him, these people are not just players, but an example of true Ukrainian character.

“Despite all the difficulties, the guys are working and maintaining their level – this deserves deep respect. The team from Mariupol, despite the move, retains its identity and traditions of waterball, demonstrating decent results in the Super League,” – Alexander Svischev said.
Revival of the big game and faith in youth
Oleksandr Svishchov sees the future in the return of the major sports centres to the elite. He is actively working to ensure Kyiv and Odesa have strong adult teams again, and the girls from Dnipro and Kharkiv bring the women’s league back to its former strength. His main focus, however, is on the youth teams. His task is to make children who today have to train abroad feel the support of their home country and dream of returning home.
“Under the conditions of war, it is a serious challenge for young athletes to go abroad, especially under the age of 22. The most important thing for us is that they do not leave waterball, continue training and eventually return to defend the colours of Ukrainian clubs and national teams,” – added the head of the Water Polo Federation of Ukraine.
An investment in the nation’s future
Outside the pool, Oleksandr Svishchov continues to be a man of action. As one of the country’s leading investors, he invests resources in Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure, creating the conditions for the development of a healthy nation. His 3rd place ranking among investors in western Ukraine only confirms that his systematic approach and love for his land are yielding real results.

In conclusion, Oleksandr Svishchov expressed the most important thought: everything we have today is due to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. His gratitude to the defenders is not just a formality, but the foundation on which every training session, every match and every success of Ukrainian sport is built.
Peace, victory and a dignified future for Ukrainian children are the goals for which Oleksandr Svishchov is fighting.
